Melanie discovered the power of yoga to heal while struggling with her own addictions many years ago. She realized she was a cross-roads and needed to make changes in her life if she truly wanted to experience life to the fullest. It was during her own recovery that a little light went on in her head and she knew she needed to dedicate her life to helping others benefit from the wisdom of these ancient teachings. When asked how she feels about her contribution
to the YDLC wellness program, she responds, “At 6 St. Joseph House I am grateful everyday that I have found a connection and community that resonates with me completely.” About Melanie teaches a variety of themed yoga classes and workshops to organizations, groups, individuals and corporate clients. Why Yoga? Yoga is both an art and a science. Yoga Therapy is sought by patients when other treatments fail. Common complaints include back and neck trouble, stress, stiff muscles, high blood pressure, digestive issues, asthma, depression/ anxiety and all types of addiction. It is one of the most effective therapies known to strengthen key muscle groups, promote proper gland function, digestion and positive, rational thinking. It is a holistic body-mind-spirit methodology based on scientific research and the ancient knowledge and wisdom of yoga and meditation. Mantra-based meditations evolved from the ancient Sanskrit language and are sound-based. The words express spiritual states and are premised on the belief that when you experience words as sounds of the universe, your energy aligns with universal truths. If you repeat a mantra enough times, you become the experience of those sounds on a vibratory level. There are mantras for prosperity, to open the heart, to overcome fears, for healing, to stop negative patterns and to create miracles in your life. The program for addictions recognizes that any form of dependency is a complex disease which has biological, psychological and spiritual origins. The major focus of KY is to treat the true bio-psycho-spiritual cause of addiction. The 16 week Addiction Recovery Program teaches participants techniques to overcome the cycle of addiction while providing the opportunity to develop and evolve through their life journey.
