On September 28 the Bell Boxes, as they are affectionately called, were unveiled by Toronto Mayor David Miller, Shawn Tracy of the Bay Corridor Community Association, artist Lee Sjostrom from 6 St. Joseph House, and Mary Ann Turcke, Bell Canada’s Executive Vice President of Field Services as they celebrated the completion of a downtown beautification project.
Located throughout a 4 block section between Historic Yonge and Bay Street, 8 beautiful mural paintings by artists from 6 St. Joseph House have given the drab brown utility boxes commonly referred to as Bell Boxes located throughout the Bay-Wellesley neighbourhood vibrant new life with images of colourful fish, birds, flowers and lively urban cityscapes.
The Bay Corridor Community Association is an active force in the neighbourhood creating green spaces, planting trees and gardens to enhance public spaces.
Yellow Door Learning Center @ 6 St. Joseph House is a creative community based learning centre. We offer over 40 courses in the arts, life skills and wellness to people experiencing systemic barriers and life transition challenges.
Benjamin Moore provided Pro Glo Paints for the project and Goodbye Graffiti prepared the boxes for painting.
Watch for future Bell Box Mural projects in the coming months!
