Long lost dreams, secret dreams, restless, unsettled, unfulfilled, confused, longing, yearning, wondering, dreaming, imagining. Many people spend a lifetime looking for true self. Some follow their talents and skills, some follow tradition and expectation. But how many of us actually identify and follow our dreams? When we find ourselves at a crossroads in life, often all we need is support and encouragement to realize new direction, to take next steps toward living the life we envision. Re-envisioning our lives isn’t easy and it is natural to feel unsure about new choices. A caring community often makes all the difference. Innovative arts and wellness programs like those offered by the Yellow Door Learning Centre have become essential catalysts in providing the creative spark many of us secretly yearn for to propel our lives forward.I know this because YDLC has been instrumental in transforming my own life. Economic shifts in the tech sector a few years ago forced me to choose between continuing as a marketing manager or following my dream to become a full-time freelance writer. I’ve had many ups and downs and unforeseen challenges since that decision including alternating feelings of hope, optimism, frustration, stress, alienation and isolation. Government social programs can be helpful, but never offered a sense of community, something my heart seemed to be silently seeking. Unlike anything else I explored, the Yellow Door Learning Centre offered me a chance to participate, volunteer and belong. After many years of deep longing for true potential, I finally found a place where I could make a difference in my own life and in the lives of those around me. 6 St. Joseph House, home of the Yellow Door Learning Centre, is an incredible spiritual and creative oasis inside a rapidly devolving world. They offer free art classes where the creative spirit finds its voice, wellness courses that inspire and transform, activities and events that promote community and inclusivity. You can go to bed, pull the covers over your head, or go to 6 St. Joseph House for a new kind of fix. Sat Nam. Come to yoga, find the meaning of true self, move beyond, dare to live the life you dream.
